Orange Arrpw Alumni and Career Services

The Legal Studies Program provides the following services prior to and after graduation to assist students in locating a position in the legal profession. Students also use the services of Syracuse University's Center for Career Services. The Program staff also works closely with the legal community to counsel graduates and develop employment opportunities. Job placement is not guaranteed to students or graduates of the program.

Students and alumni are encouraged to contact Bruce F. Hamm, J.D., Director, in the program office via e-mail or at 315-443-3299 for additional information.

  • The SU Center for Career Services provides resume writing assistance, job seeking skills, and e recruiting. The Center is an all-University office that provides assistance with career planning, job, and graduate school searches. The types of services are varied to meet the needs of all people in all discipline areas and at various stages in career planning and placement. The Center is located in the Schine Student Center in suite 235. To reach the center by telephone, call 315/443-3616 or visit their web site at: http://students.syr.edu/career/index.htm.

  • The Internship Program is available to students seeking to integrate coursework with practical experience. Internships are required for degree students and voluntary for certificate students. Internships are available in law firms, government settings, and corporate offices. Internships may or may not be paid and may or may not be for academic credit. Click here for more information.

  • The "Listserv" is available for employer job postings and professional messages. It's easy to join and you'll get up to the minute postings. Students are encouraged to sign up and access is free.

Please use this listserv for questions regarding professional development, program alumni activities, and other related matters. If you have questions or want to subscribe, please email us at SULAP@uc.syr.edu or call us at 315/443-3299.

  • All job opportunities are posted internally for current students and program graduates to inform them of legal employment opportunities. Additionally, potential employers are solicited to call the Program for referrals of qualified graduates to fill vacancies.

  • Students are encouraged to leave resumes with the Program office to help facilitate placement when such vacancies occur. The Program Director is also available by appointment for individual consultations and assistance with job searches. Students and alumni should provide the Program office with current addresses, phone numbers, and emails to assist in securing employment.

  • As an American Bar Association Approved ("ABA") Program, we are required to survey our graduates on a regular basis. The purpose of this survey is to make our program responsive to the needs of local employers, and to better prepare our graduates for a career in the legal field. Your opinions are important to us. We also want to stay in touch with you. Please let us know if any of your contact information has changed.

Graduates, please fill out our survey form!

You will find a short questionnaire with space for comments if you choose to include them. We know you are busy and we have tried to make completion as painless as possible. The data from this survey will be used in aggregate form only. Your answers will remain confidential. If you have any questions about this survey, please do not hesitate to contact me via e-mail—bfhamm@uc.syr.edu. Thank you for your time and consideration, but most of all, thank you for staying in touch with us.

  • Students are also eligible to become affiliate members of the Onondaga County Bar Association (OCBA) (315/471-2667) (website: http://www.onbar.org). OCBA has a number of benefit programs, continuing legal education programs, and networking events for their members.
